Bhadra River
Bhadra River is a river flowing in Shimoga district and is one of the most important rivers in South India, especially in the state of Karnataka. Bhadra River The Bhadra River of the Western Ghats originates from the source of the Ganges at the foothills of the Varaha Mountains and flows eastward over the Deccan Plateau.
Along with other tributaries like Somavahini, Tadabehalla and Odirayanahalla, it flows through the Bhadra Sanctuary in Chikkamagaluru district and joins the Tunga river at a small town ‘Koodli’ in Shimoga district to become the Tungabhadra river.
A reservoir has been constructed for this Bhadra river near Lakkavalli. The dam is about 189 feet long and has a storage capacity of 71.535 TMC. The Tungabhadra then flows, crosses Karnataka and joins the Bay of Bengal as a major tributary of the Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh.
