Lakkavalli Dam
Bhadra Reservoir is also known as Bhadra Dam or Lakkavalli Dam. Bhadra Reservoir is a catchment in Bhadravati and this dam is located 22 km from Bhadravati. The nearest railway station to this Bhadra Dam or Lakkavalli Dam is Bhadravathi Railway Station.
It is situated on Bhadra river, a tributary of Tungabhadra river. Bhadra Dam is located on the border of Bhadravati and Tarikere in the western part of Karnataka, India. The benefits derived from reservoir storage are 162,818 hectares (402,330 acres), hydropower generation of 39.2 MW, three powerhouses on the right and left bank main canals with a total irrigation capacity of irrigated drinking water supply and industrial use. Commissioned in 1965, the dam covers an area of 11,250.88 hectares (27,801) with a height of 59.13 meters (194.0 ft) and a length of 1,708 meters (5,604 ft).
The Bhadra Dam Project is an irrigation project under the National Water Management Plan (NWMP), with the aim of increasing agricultural productivity, particularly for rice production. The dam was built to a height of 59.13 meters (194.0 ft) above river bed level between the 1947 construction start phase and the 1965 start year phase.
