Sheela Gowda

Sheela Gowda was born in 1957 in Bhadravati taluk of Shimoga district. Social concerns are prominent in Sheela Gowda’s artworks. In his artworks, the political and social system of India, the injustice to the workers are wonderfully depicted. She is a contemporary artist and works in Bangalore. Trained as a painter, Sheela expanded her practice to sculpture and installation using a diversity of materials such as cow-dung, incense and saffron powder.

Sheela Gowda spent her childhood in Bhadravati. Her parents were born in a village. But because of his father’s government job, he lived in both rural and urban areas. His father was also a writer and recorded folk literature and folk music and collected folk objects. Sheela Gowda’s Art School R. M. Hadapad started at Ken School of Art, a small college in Bangalore. Then Professor K. G. He moved to Baroda to study under Subrahmanyam.

Sheela Gowda’s approach to creating artworks is also astonishing. His skill in creating works of art using non-conventional materials aside from ready-made patterns is astounding. Instead of paints, they create works of art using cow dung, ash, thread and hair.

Sheela Gowda’s works have been exhibited in many solo exhibitions and festivals in 10 different galleries at home and abroad, including Venkatappa Art Gallery, Bangalore, Galerie Chemould, Mumbai, Bose Passy Gallery, New York, Museum Gowda, Netherlands, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.
