Gundappa Viswanath

Gundappa Ranganath Vishwanath was born on 12 February 1949 in Bhadravati. He is a former Indian cricketer. In March 1978, Gundappa Vishwanath married teammate Sunil Gavaskar’s sister Kavitha. He has a son named Daivik and lives in Bangalore.

Vishwanath was rated as one of India’s best batsmen throughout the 1970s. He was a skilled middle-order right-handed batsman. He was the head of the Indian cricket team selection team of the Indian Cricket Board. He was the captain of the Karnataka cricket team that won the Ranji Trophy in 1983.

Vishwanath played Test cricket for India from 1969 to 1983, playing 91 matches and scoring over 6,000 runs. He played in one-day internationals from 1974 to 1982, including the 1975 and 1979 World Cups.
