Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the major tourist attractions in Bhadravati. This sanctuary is located at a distance of 23 km from Bhadravati. This sanctuary is located amidst the deciduous forests of the Western Ghats. Various species of animals like leopard, elephant, gaur, sambar, tiger, deer, muntjac and porcupine are found here.

Several species of birds are present here including Southern Green Imperial Pigeon, Emerald Pigeon, Malabar Parakeet, Hill Myna and Great Black Woodpecker. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is a paradise for birds. It is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, who can see animals here in their natural habitat.

The best time to visit Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is between October and May. The summer months, particularly from March to May, are the best time to spot most of the wildlife as the animals come to drink water through the Bhadra river, where you can enjoy various activities like jeep safari, trekking, bird watching, rock climbing and water sports.

By April, river terns arrive in large numbers and start breeding. Five species of kingfishers are found here, along with other birds like cormorants, Brahminy kites and ospreys.

Bhadra Tiger Reserve is mainly located in Chikkamagaluru district and a small part in Bhadravati taluk of Shimoga district. In Chikkamagaluru district it is Tarikere, Chikkamagaluru and N.R. Pura Taluks.

Shivamogga is surrounded by beautiful natural spots including waterfalls, forests and hills, making it a favorite destination for nature lovers and trekkers. The serene atmosphere and pleasant climate of this region attracts tourists from different parts of the country.
