History of Hosanagar Taluk

History says that Shivappanayaka made a town called Bidanur Nagar in this taluk the capital of his rule. At that time, this town was called ‘Kalur’. Gradually Bidanur city became ‘Hale Nagar’ and this area was called ‘New Nagar’ as the population increased. Boys here place more emphasis on Hinduism and nationalism.

 

Geographic information

Hosanagar is located at 13.92°N 75.07°E.[4] It has an average elevation of 585 meters (1919 ft).

Hosanagar taluk is full of forest areas. A considerable area of ​​the taluk is covered by the backwaters of the Linganamakki Dam constructed across the Sharavati river. Monsoon season (June-October) is the month of heavy rainfall in this taluk.

Hosanagara has decent transport connectivity, making it accessible by road.

  1. Road Connectivity: The city is well-connected by road networks.  Kundapura – Shivamogga road, connecting it to Shivamogga to Hosanagara, which is about 68 kilometers away. Regular bus services operate from Hosanagara to various parts of Karnataka, facilitating easy travel for commuters.

  2. Railway Connectivity: Hosanagara has a nearest Anandapuram Railway Station (Birur–Talaguppa branch line of Bangalore–Arsikere–Hubli line) 15 km, which is part of the South Western Railway zone. The station is on the Birur–Shivamogga railway line and Sagara Railway Station. Trains from Shivamogga and Sagara connect to cities like Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi, and Mangaluru, providing an alternative mode of transport for travelers.

  3. Air Connectivity: While Hosanagara itself does not have an airport, the nearest major airport is in Shivamogga (Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Airport) and Mangaluru (Mangalore International Airport – IXE), both of which are connected to major cities across India. Travelers can reach Hosanagara from these airports via road.

  4. Local Transport: Within Hosanagara, local transport options include buses, auto-rickshaws, and taxis. These services help commuters and tourists navigate within the city and its surrounding areas conveniently.
