Akka Mahadevi

Sharane Akkamahadevi was born in a small village known as Uduthadi or Udgani or Udugani situated between Shikaripura and Shirala Koppa in Shimoga district to Nirmalashetty and Sumathi who were devotees of Paramashiva. This village is about 363 km from Bangalore. is far away. It is 69 km from Shimoga. and about 16 km from Shikaripura. is far away. About 15 km. And it is 4 km away from Shira Koppa. Now it is also famous as a tourist destination.

Akkamahadevi is one of the leading figures of Vachan literature. Akkamahadevi is the first woman poet of Kannada. Akkamahadevi can be recognized in many ways as the leader of the Sarana movement, the symbol of self-respect, the true advocate of the feminist movement, the elder sister of Akka, and so on. Akka, who gave up all happiness at a young age, faced a lot of tests. Accepting Sakshat Shiva (Mallikarjuna) as her husband, scorning the mundane world, legend has it that she wandered naked, her elder sister who walked as Keshambara, becoming a role model for many devotees.

After trying to save the land where Kaushik Maharaja’s fort and Akka’s temple were located, they fought and were successful. The Sri Shivakumar Shivacharya Mahaswamiji of Sirigere and the freedom fighters of Hire Jambur saved it and the government paid attention to it and started its development. Akkamahadevi, who abandoned everything from such a habit of others, not only involved herself in the revolution of welfare with Sharans like Allama Prabhu, Basavanna, Chennabasavanna Siddharama in the experience hall of [Basava Kalyana], but also contributed her own literary service to Vachana literature (Sharana Sahitya) under the pen name “Channamallikarjuna”.
