G S Shivarudrappa

G S Shivarudrappa was born to father Shantaveerappa and mother Veeramma on February 7, 1926 at Isurugram in Shikaripura taluk. This village is about 390 km from Bangalore. is far away. It is about 10 km from Shikaripur and 52 km from Shimoga.

Shivrudrappa Impressed by his father’s passion for literature, Shivrudrappa completed his primary education in Honnali and Kotehala, secondary education in Ramagiri, Belagura, high school and intermediate education in Davangere and Tumkur. B.A from Maharaja College, University of Mysore. Graduated with Honors in 1949. He got married to Rudrani in May 1950.

Davanagere D.R.M. He was a Kannada lecturer in college and later M.A. Passed in first class in 1953 and got three gold medals. In 1955, he conducted research under the guidance of Kuvempur with the help of a research scholarship from the Government of India. His thesis for his doctorate from Vishwa Vidyalaya, Mysore – Beauty Survey. As a favorite disciple of Kuvempur, he was influenced by his writings and life.

He has written several travelogues such as 22 days in Moscow, Chaturmasa in England, Kannadiga in America, On the peaks of the Ganges, Devashilpa, Deepa Padam, several poetry collections and several biographies and reviews/prose.

He is a Kannada poet, critic, researcher, dramatist and professor. After Govinda Pai, Kuvempu was named ‘Rastra Kavi’ (Nov 1, 2006 on Golden Karnataka Rajyotsava) and so on.

G S Shivarudrappa died on 23 December 2013 at his Banashankari residence after suffering from illness.
