Sharavati River

The Sharavati River is a river that originates entirely in the Indian state of Karnataka. Sharavathi originates from Ambutirtha in Karnataka. It is one of the few west-flowing rivers in India and a major part of the river basin lies in the Western Ghats.

Linganamakki Dam on the Sharavati River was constructed by the Karnataka State Government in 1964 at Kargal village in Sagar taluk. Sharavati is a 1,035MW hydroelectric project. It is about 9 km from Joga Falls.

At Jog Falls the river Sharavati plunges into a 253 meter (830′) deep gorge in four distinct parts named Raja, Roarer Rocket and Rani. The river Sharavati flows through the states of Uttara Kannada and West Karnataka. Rising in the Western Ghats, it flows 60 miles (100 km) northwest to the Arabian Sea near Honnavar.

Shivamogga is surrounded by beautiful natural spots including waterfalls, forests and hills, making it a favorite destination for nature lovers and trekkers. The serene atmosphere and pleasant climate of this region attracts tourists from different parts of the country.
