Sagara is a city located in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is also a sub divisional and a taluk headquarters. Located in the Sahyadri Mountain range on the banks of river Varada, it is known for its proximity to Jog Falls.
Sagar is a town in Shimoga district in the state of Karnataka and the administrative center of the subdivision and taluk of the same name. It is 360 km from Bangalore city and about 70.5 km from Shimoga city. Sagara Nagar is situated in the hilly region and is famous for sandalwood carving in the state. Sagara is also known as sandalwood temple.
It is known that Sagara town has a history of four hundred years. This city existed since the time of Keladi dynasty. The lake near the ocean was so vast that it looked like an ocean. That lake had the name “Sadashiva Sagar”. Then Sadashiva left and only the ocean remained and that is the name of this city, there is a mythological historical reference.
