K V Subbanna
Kuntagodu Vibhuti Subbanna, popularly known as KV Subbanna, was born at Heggodu in Sagar Taluk of Shimoga District. Born on February 20, 1937, he later established the theater organization Neelakantheshwara Natyaseva Sangh (Neenasam) in a small town like Heggodi in 1949 and attracted international attention through his theater activities. Akshara Prakashan was founded by KV Subban at Heggodi.
Through this, he brought his own position and prestige to the rural theater. The tour run by Neenasam is an integral part of Kannada theater today. He was also a writer and created many works. Subbanna was not only a playwright but also a translator, a good critic and a publisher. He has created more than 20 works related to cinema.
He has been awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, Kalidasa Samman Award by the Philippine government.
And Kaviraja Marga and Kannada Jagattu won the Central Sahitya Akademi Award.
On July 16, 2005, KV Subbanna died of a heart attack.
