The Aghoreshwar temple is in the Hoysala-Kadamba style. An inscription on an old stone slab in the temple says that it was built by a sculptor named Hombuchada Venkataiah during the reign of the Keladi kings. The north-south oriented temple has a garbhagriha (Stone Shiva linga), Ardhamantapa (a small Nandi carved from white stone (amrita stone), Mukhamuntapa and a separate mantapa for Nandi in front). This temple has a 32 handed festival idol of Aghoreshwar. In the doorway of Ardhamantapa there are carvings of Mahishamardini and Bhairava on both sides while on the right there are carvings of Ganapati and Shanmukha. The front porch is supported by carved pillars. The temple has a Dravidian style kalasa. To the west of the temple is a small Akhilandeshwari temple. In front of the temple there is a huge stone snail idol, with a space at the bottom of one of its legs that small children can crawl into, and it is believed that a wish will be granted if they crawl into it.
There is a myth that the temple here has carved two lizards separated by a line along with a scorpion. When these lizards touch each other, there will be a deluge, but the scorpion there prevents it. There are lakes on both sides of the temple, from which the town got its name Ikkeri (Eredu + Kere = Ikkeri).
