Jog Falls

Jog Falls is a waterfall on the river Sharavati in Siddapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district and its view point is mesmerizing. It is located in Sagar Taluk of Shimoga District. Joga Falls is 106 km from Shimoga and 437 km from Bangalore. Jog Falls is the second highest plunging waterfall in India.

It is a bifurcated waterfall that plunges depending on rainfall and season. The falls are a major attraction for tourists and are ranked 36th in the list of free-falling waterfalls, 490th in the world by total height of waterfalls, Jog Falls is formed by a 253 m (830 ft) drop of the Sharavati River, after Nolidake Falls in Meghalaya at 335 m (1,099 ft) and Dudhasagar Falls. It is the third highest waterfall in India.

Jog Falls is unique. Water does not flow in a graded fashion under rocks. It thunders down a slope that loses contact with the rocks, making it the highest un-tiered waterfall in India. The beauty of the falls lies in the lush greenery, which provides a scenic backdrop.

The best time to visit Jog falls is during the rainy season, from July to September when the falls are in full glory. There are several viewpoints where visitors can enjoy the beauty of Jog Falls.

The main lookout is on the opposite side of the falls and offers a panoramic view of the falls. During the trekking season, tourists can descend 1400 steps to the base of the falls and witness the beauty and sound of nature at its best.
