T S Venkannaiah

Taluk Shamrao Venkannaiah is an author and educationist. Venkannaiah was born on 17 November 1941, in a local Telugu family in Shimoga district. He was named after his father’s elder brother TS Venkannaiah.

Venkannaiah did his primary and secondary education in Shimoga and later moved to Mysore for higher education. He completed his MA in Sanskrit from the University of Mysore in 1963 and worked as a sub-editor in the Adult Education Council, Mysore for six months and started his career as a high school teacher in a domestic school from 1964 to 1965. On 08 July 1965, he was a lecturer at JCBM College, Srigeri (Sharada Peetham). He retired as Principal of the same college on 30 November 1999.

If he translated several works. A collection of six short stories and other works translated from Sanskrit into Kannada by Sri Shankara Bhajagovindam, Dharma Neeti and Subhasitas with special commentary.

Aadyathmika Sanjeevini – Swami Paramananda’s Spiritual Healing, Meditation Ritual – Swami Ritajananda’s Meditation Practice, Katha Kusuma – Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha – Reforming Parables and more than 10 other works translated from English to Kannada.

Venkannaiah’s works have received Sahitya Siri Award from Kannada Sahitya Parishad. He was against meaningless rituals and ceremonies and he was for true understanding of spiritual texts. His words are expressed in his memorial volume Sahridayi. Venkannaya’s writings varied from Sanskrit works to English and Telugu works.
