Tavarekoppa
Tavarekoppa Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Shimoga district. Popularly known as ‘Lion Safari’ or ‘Sinhadham’, Tyawarekoppa Lion and Tiger Sanctuary in Shimoga is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in Karnataka. The reserve is spread over 200 hectares of land.
It is on the way to Sagar from Shimoga and is about 10 km from Shimoga. The forest department has constructed a tiger-lion sanctuary here. The Forest Department has been organizing tiger lion safaris here since 1988.
It is an open zoo where safaris are conducted by the forest department for tourists. Wildlife Safari started in 1998. Sanctuary Timings: Open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:15 PM to 5:00 PM on all days of the week except Tuesdays and National Holidays.
Forest department uses special vehicles for this. Apart from tigers and lions, there are also many wild animals like bear, deer, deer, sambar, kadava. All in all it is a beautiful tourist destination.
Here you can see wild boar, sloth bear, donkey, deer, black leopard, crocodile, peacock, ostrich bird, waterfowl, different species of parrots, ducks, python etc. There is a fee for the safari and you can see tigers and lions during the safari. There is a clean and beautiful park where children can play after watching the safari and seeing the animals. Here parents can spend good time with children. Jeep Safari is very popular these days.
