Balligavi

Balligavi is a historic town in Shikaripura taluk of Shimoga district in the state of Karnataka. This area is about 21 km from Shikaripura town. Balligavi is also the birthplace of Allama Prabhu and the home of Shanthaladevi, queen of Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysalas. Kedareshwar temple is located here.

Kedareshwara temple is in Hoysala style, the construction of Kedareshwara temple started during Kalyana Chalukya period and completed during Hoysala period. Balligave was the main capital of the southern region of Kalyani Chalukyas. Located 03 km from Shiralakoppa, this small town has many temples of Chalukya and Hoysala era. Kalyani was also an important cultural center during the Chalukya period.

Additionally, Balligavi is famous for Kedareshwar Temple and Tripuranthakeshwar Temple. Overall, Balligavi is a significant destination for history enthusiasts, archaeologists and those interested in exploring the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka.
